Blessed Are The Persecuted
The bell rang. The first day at the new school was done. Nicholas walked to the tree to wait for Alice so they could go home.
Tommy, a new friend, came by and started talking to Nicholas.
"Come with me. I want to show you something," said Tommy.
"Sure, Tommy," Nicholas answered and they took off.
They played for awhile and talked and started running together.
Before Nicholas knew it, he was half way home. Where was Alice?
He looked around, there was no Alice!
Where could she be? What happened to her? He was supposed to look after his little sister.
He remembered leaving his classroom and walking to the tree and...
He was supposed to meet Alice at the tree! He ran as fast as he could back to school. He ran to the tree. There was Alice sitting on the ground waiting for him just as she was supposed to.
"Where were you?" she asked
"Well... I... um..."
"I have been standing here waiting for you!" She was so mad at Nicholas.
Nicholas didn't want to tell her what happened.
He didn't want her mad at him.
"Well?" she asked again.
Nicholas hung his head, "I was with Tommy. We were talking and running. I’m sorry, Alice."
Alice looked at Nicholas for a long time.
She smiled at him, "Let's go home. Its getting late".
Jesus teaches us that we must accept responsibility. Blaming others for our problems or feeling sorry for ourselves is wrong.
What would you have done?
Do you think Nicholas should have told Alice the truth?
Should he have blamed Tommy for making him late?
Do you think Alice should be mad at Nicholas?
Do you think she should forgive him?
Do you think she should feel sorry for herself for waiting so long?
Do you think Jesus was happy with Alice and Nicholas?
